Six Organs of Admittance, Ascent

The new Six Organs of Admittance album comes with a sticker on the front that says, "Play This Record Loudly." Advice taken.

Ascent is a total burner -- from that wordless, high-intensity opener "Waswasa" to the introspective, droning bits to all the groovy, tumbling and rocking seven-minute jams in between. Solid and simple backing is provided by Comets on Fire. Ben Chasny, aka Mr. Six Organs, sings and plays lead guitar.

Chasny's 6OOA is usually an acoustic-based project, and although he gets loud every once in a while, he's never released something this wooly under the Six Organs name before. Ben is also officially a part of Comets on Fire. Chasny talks about how the new "collab" came to be in this interview with Uncut.

And here's a taste of the (non-Comets) electric 6OOA lineup playing live at the Villette Sonique festival in France, 2008:

Ascent is out this month on Drag City. Inexplicably, the label doesn't give you a download card in the vinyl LP, but you can buy FLACs on its website.
