Quantic was living in Cali, Colombia for years, producing brilliant records with musicians and singers that fused reggae, cumbia, Caribbean sounds. This is the latest collab, and likely his last from Cali (he moved to Brooklyn). Singer Nidia Góngora hails from an Afro-Colombian community and brings some West African-flavored folkloric singing to Quantic's thick and slick thump.by snackfight the selectorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10152357944845805102noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-413921435449810512.post-82669936654050836892017-06-07T09:02:00.001-07:002017-06-07T09:02:31.860-07:00Suzanne Ciani<iframe width="900" height="506" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/-UYyGbcyuJ8?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe><br />

Dungen has been around for 18 years. The Swedish band exploded in the American underground in 2003, toured here for a few years, then went quiet. Now they're in the midst of a stellar second act. Here they are performing a piece of the soundtrack they wrote for an old silent film, which they've been spending this year performing beneath at screenings.by snackfight the selectorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10152357944845805102noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-413921435449810512.post-67278472187864654372017-04-29T16:55:00.000-07:002017-04-29T16:55:49.651-07:00Juana Molina, "Lentísimo Halo"<iframe width="900" height="506" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/--pC7g_eGgo?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe><br />

Argentinian songwriter Juana Molina has a new record out in May. Instead of releasing a video of the hit single, she worked with the filmmaker Mariano Ramis to make a short film around one of the weirder tracks. The results are pretty outstanding. Ramos says he shot the thing, then animated every frame using "an inkjet printer, laser film paper, and soy sauce."
